Has anybody ever replaced their rear side glass?
I cannot figure this out :aigo:

All I could manage was to get the back corner piece of trim off. I can't figure out how the top piece of trim comes off and I'm not sure what's under it and what's holding the glass on.

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

you have to pull the interior trim panel off and there's some screws holding it in via tabs i believe... i'd have to look at my car to be 100% sure, but that's at least 10 miles away, and it's late.
so i'll have to stick with my 90% sure and say to go with what i said. i'm pretty sure it is, dont try to force the trim off, i did at the junkyard and i guess i was prying on the window a bit too hard, lol.
thank god it was at the junkyard.

There's a 2 handed tool with a blade and a cable handle you use to slice through the urethane glue strip that bonds the glass to the body.
(after you've removed all of the trim parts)

So even after I take off all the panels I still have to cut through the butal (I think thats what it's called) and I need a special tool...

I swear to God I'd rather do a head gasket! I hate f'ing with those plastic panels.

So I'm beggining to get the idea that there is no easier softer way.

Yep the glass is bonded in and if you try to push it out it will break.

The tool I posted makes the job 100x easier.

You can use a wire and 2 people you need a hacksaw blade sharpened to make a hole/slot in the bondstrip then slde the wire through wrap each end around a wooden handle then with one person outside and one inside you saw through all the way around the glass.

Any way you do it it's a bitch of a job.

^ A glass getter outer. Seriously though, I've seen it referred to a cold knife, or simply a windshield removal tool as seen here:

http://www.mytoolstore.com/toolaid/colli04.html

It's still a bitch getting through that stuff, I used one to pull the glass out of a demo derby car. Hopefully a side glass will be easier than a whole windshield.

edit:
Beat me to it.

I've taken it out of numerous cars at junkyards and never needed a tool, if you're careful and take your time you really don't need it, but it is better to have it. At the junkyard if you break the glass... no big deal, just go home, lol.

Lantern: LOL ;).

Jeff:LMAO Supra's are rare here so I wouldn't risk not using the tool!
(Toyota probably want $4000 a side for em)

I spattered mind with the grinder so it needs to be replaced once I get around to it :( .

I know how you feel. The reason I posted this thread is because my son and I were discussing the finer points of swinging a baseball bat (in the garage)and during the show and tell portion of the discussion I ahh....well you get the idea. Anyway it needs to be replaced. I'm not looking forward to fixing it but everytime I look at it (or at least where it was) I am reminded of what a dildo I am.
