A guy in town wants to sell me a 1987 supra for like $300. It has had a junk title which is slightly worse than a salvage. It's not running well, but we'll be able to figure that out before i buy it. It says 7m-GTE on the timing cover but it has the NA intake manifold. Was it a turbo? Can I convert it back? It's cheap and I need some parts for my car anyways. I might make it a track car. What do you guys think?

i say yes. that cheap, you can use parts off of it, and if its not what you thought it would be then you can always part it out. but that na intake mani with a 7mgte timing cover is weird, should be able to tell whether its turbo or not. any pics?

Yeah. Thats what I was thinking. I dont have any pics but I'm gonna go get it running later today so I'll send some from my phone to Photobucket. The guy that owns it now is an idiot btw. Either way I can get it back on the road/ track turbo or no turbo.

It's really weird. I opened the hood and immediately noticed that it said 7m-gte on it. Then I looked at the intake and the lack of a turbo, so now I'm confused as to what it is.

its a no brainer really. Parts or fix it up, either way if its a mostly complete car you cant go wrong. I got a parts car with no engine/trans/diff for $500 and parted it out for well over $1000 in total.

Good find for sure. You can sell the interior for $100 maybe, the exterior trim for $100-200 depending on condition, and the rest of your car is free! Pick what you want, give the rest to a wrecker.

The rest of the story:

Got the title from the guy's dad. Got back to town, towed it home. (I was in the car.) The rope snapped going through an intersection and I almost died, but we got it home. I put a new battery in it while the old one was charging and tried to start it. At first, I had to have my foot all the way down on the gas, but it slowly it got better, then we noticed that water was coming out of the exhaust. Finally, it got to where it could idle. At first it was rough, but after the water was out, it ran fine. I started it up this morning and it was still running great.

$300! LOL
