Well, I've been looking sadly at my seats ever since I took them out, and the thought of trying to re-upholster them myself has been tempting me strongly.

Only thing is, I have no idea how to do this. Is there anyone around here that has tried it (including the shaping of the internal foam) that could go about explaining it to me?

Yes, I know, a pro could do it 100 times better than me, but I would like to ATLEAST try it once, even if it's with the back seat.

if you search you'll find people who have done it themselves, and they regretted it because it either didn't turn out the way they liked, or it took too much work... or you can buy the kits like catskins and install them yourself, not too hard but still a good amount of work.... or you can just have them professionally installed or get someone to completely reupholster them. that's what i did.

if you're going to redo the foam and everything and stitch each piece by hand, good luck is all i have to say. the stock pattern is very complicated and has lots of little pieces in there. when i had mine reupholstered i wanted the factory original pattern which took them twice as long to make compared to something like the catskins which consolidate a lot of small pieces in bigger pieces with a more simpler pattern.

don't get racing seats, they look horrible in my opinion.... the factory leather is the only way to go. if you can't afford it, just save up. I paid $600 for two tone perforated leather made in the original stock pattern, but I got a very good deal.

i laugh at people who try to reduce weight in a supra. seriously racing seats look stupid, they look rice, and they're not comfortable, not compatible with the power lumbar, etc.... why throw away hundreds of dollars on racing seats?

i love my seats, i'd rather have ripped up stock leather seats then brand new racing seats..... infact if my supra ever comes to a tragic end in some collision, i'm taking the seats out and them put in my living room.

I agree ^

and you can only buy peasant no name ebay racing seats for that much money, which are horrible. Stock is the way to go.

I had racing seats and took them out because - they were very uncomfortable - sat too high - looked like shit IMO... And quality was inferior to the supra ones.

I already got a price quote for the seats and everything. I don't remember the exact number but it was almost $300 for the fronts in leather. Also, I'm keeping the stock seats cuz I'm not interested in saving weight in the Supra (don't care what anyone says about it, the answer is no and that's final for me) cuz it's going to be mostly the weekend beach cruiser.

I KNOW, like I said in the first post, I KNOW that a pro can do a much better job. But my question still remains on if anyone has any idea on what the process is. You gotta try things for a first time at some point in your life, and I think now is a good a time as any.

What will I do if I do a bad job? I''ll take it all apart and take it to a professional. Atleast I'll have the honor of saying, "hey, at least I tried".

Oh, money wasted? I can deal with that cuz at least it's money spent trying to learn something new, which I can happily live with.

Plus, I don't like the factory pattern THAT much...... though I have no idea what type of pattern I would like!

What??? $300 to redo the fronts with leather????? Where, I'm in!
My leather's all cracked and deteriorating, but I was expecting at least double that. I'm off to get new leather!

the center portion of the seat has like 3 small strips for each ripple if you know what i mean.... most aftermarket companies put no ripples there, just one big piece... the sides are made with a thin strip going all the way up and down, that's usually not put there and put into the other peices... take a look at the catskinz seats and you'll see the difference.

after you've decided what pattern you want you just buy the material and sew it up together... from what i saw when they made mine, they removed the entire stock cover, then measured out each piece cut a leather one to meatch and just kept stitching them all together until it made one big cover and they slipped that on and walla.
