Ive searched through numerous threads and havent quit found my answer. Ive been looking into running a maft and safcII instead of the SAFCII, lexus afm, and 550's. Now I know that the 440's are good for a decent amount of power but I have a few questions.

1) Will 440's be fine with safc II and maft
2) When hooking up the MAFT and SAFCII are there any changes from the directions or do I just hook them up as written.*my main question******
3)Do I need to have a fear of running lean?? I am going to have the car professionally tuned on a dyno when im done.

My goal for this car right now is about 320 horsepower hopefully without an upgraded turbo for the time being. Is this possible?

Mods are as follows:
K&N FPIK
3inch turbo elbow
3inch downpipe
3inch in/out high flow cat
3 inch tanabe hyper medallion
profec A 12psi (14-15 psi after tuning)
Greddy Type S bov
upgraded plugs and wires
and the maft and safcII soon

You can do this power level without the SAFC. I am currently running 13psi on an upgraded CT26, with stock fuel (including injectors, pump, and fuel lines) through just a MAFT, with a Zeitronix ZT2 wideband to check my AF Ratio.

Even at full boost in 4th gear at 5500 rpm, I'm still running 10.7 AF Ratio.

Remember, ymmv - this is on a brand new turbo, freshly rebuilt engine, cleaned and balanced stock 440cc injectors... you get the idea.

well i have the SAFCII in hand so it would be going on no matter what

Can't hurt - except that it will make wiring complicated. Still, your power goals should be very attainable.
yea, but that brings me back to my main question.....how does the wiring change if at all when installing the two

You feed the MAFT flow output signal into your SAFC and then into the ECU. You don't touch anything between the MAFT and the flow meter.

which wires are those exactly?

*edit* also when i install the maft----do i need to worry about running lean or will those baseline settings for 440 injectors be ok as in the writeup...that just makes the maf act as the stock AFM correct?

You'll have to refer to the MAFT and SAFC owners manuals to see which wires are the flow outputs (Maft) and inputs/outputs (SAFC).

You always have to worry about running lean. You're playing with fire if you screw something up. One switch turned wrong, and you can make your engine a heap of junk. So read the instructions to your magic black boxes like the life and death of your engine depends on it, because it does.

But scary stuff aside, if you set the MAFT to the "stock" settings and zero out the SAFC it should run like stock. But widebands are so cheap now, there really is no excuse for tunning blind.

So why not just use the SAFC by itself? Many, many people have kick ass A/F curves with just the SAFC. ??

Or heck...for the price of both units you could pick up an Emanage setup and be able further tune fuel AND timing.

As robbo185 points out, the major reason to buy one of these is to increase the airflow allowed before you tun into fuel cut. The fuel tuning bits are just an added feature.

The old route for this was:
K&N kit @ $200
Lexus AFM @ $100
550cc injectors @ $500
Total: $800

The new route for this is:
MAFT: $200
GM MAF: $30
3" K&N to fit on the MAF: $20
Total: $250

The new method also gives you the ability to do rough fuel tuning, and to add any size injectors you want later. As long as you don't want to go more than about 400rwhp, you should be fine with the stock 440s, as long as you get them serviced.

ok so i have my maft coming at the end of this week and everything will be installed on friday or saturday.

my last question is it ok to mount the maft like in the engine bay.....say where the abs should be....or should i lengthen the harness and route into the glove box..(note...maft will probobly not be touched for a while after the correct settings are found)
