Safc problem

Ok my friend and I tried hooking up the safc yesterday on my 87 7mgte and I can't get anything to show up on the display. We soldered everything except for the air flow readings which are on male/female connectors.

Everything shows that the safc is getting power but nothing shows up on the display. The car runs also although I had to d/c the airflow readings to make it run normal. I checked those connections and they look solid so I'm not sure what's going on with it.

Here's how I have it wired:

red - pwr
green - rpm
grey - throttle
blue - knock sensor
black - ground
brown - ground/closest to ecu on the one wire
pink - airflow/pressure sensor output
orange - airflow/pressure sensor input

did you buy the safc used?
and hook up all the wires to be safe...but i doubt that has anything to do with it

When you say that nothing shows up on the display, do you mean that the entire display is blank, or that everything reads 0? If it is completly blank, completely disconnect it, and find a seperate source for power and ground and see if it will come on. If the start up screen comes on (where it displays SAFC for a few secs) but then blanks out, then the brightness setting is all the way down. Just do what you can to reinitialize it, which will be hard since you can't see it, lol. Could be a bad SAFC, too. Seen that quite a few times.

i have seen the cable connection come loose inside the afc itself. if all else fails carefully remove the case screws and check that the cable is completely seated in the connector on the afc.

Yes I did :)
Anyways just went out and checked and the connection to the harness from inside the safc came loose from the circuit board. So now it shows up when I turn the power on :icon_bigg
Thanks for that suggestion db

sure thing!

glad that worked for you.

It's wired correctly but I still can't get the car to start with it hooked up.
Everything else is still working though.

You have the pink and orange on the same wire(Ks) correct? With the Ks signal wire cut, you should have the pink on the side going to the ECU and the orange on the side coming from the AFM. That is the only lead that must be cut, the rest you can just splice in without actually cutting them.

Also , remember, you need to setup the device first before starting the car .
That is so that you can configure the type of sensor you are using :
Follow the inital setup screen, sicne you bought it used, it may have been configured to another car.

So are you saying turn the ignition on then try to set it up with the engine off Moe? Because it was configured for and MKIV and all the setting seem to be correct. I chose Karman for the a/f readings so I'm not sure what's up still.

Yup, set it up before starting the car, go through all the settings , start by initializing it first to dump all the old settings on it.
Make sure the throttle arrow is pointing up ( 1'clock position ) etc..
do you have thr grounds wired correctly??
