Jon, colors are in the TEWD.

There's the pics of all wires for a 90 ecu, I have the 89 tewd at home, but it's late 89, so it should be the same, the only difference would be pre 89 harnesses..

This is how I did mine for a 90 Turbo. The connectors for the ECU are labeled in the TSRM as R(26 pins), S(16 pins) and T(22 pins). I don't have the info available for the 87-88 however. All wires are to be tapped into and sealed. The only wire that needs to be cut is the Light Green/Red (S2) for the airflow signal.
SAFC-II to Vehicle ECU
Red (Power) to +B - Black/Red (T12)
Green (RPM) to IGF - Light Green/Black (R3)
Purple (Knock Sensor 1) to KNK - White (Clear) (S5)
Gray (Throttle) to VTA - White/Red (S11)
Brown (Ground) to E1 - Brown (R14) (Closest to ECU)
Black (Ground) to E1 - Brown (R14) (Away from ECU - Harness Side)
Pink (Airflow Output to ECU) to KS - Light Green/Red (S2 - ECU Side)
Orange (Airflow Input from AFM) to KS - Light Green/Red (S2 - Harness Side)

Hope this helps. Good luck on your project! Oops, I think I posted in two threads.

weird thing, after I took up the Airflow wires, the car rpm on a cold start drops really fast and when I accelerate while parked it stalls, and on the SAFC 1 it doesnt read out any airflow/kar

I don't know anything about the SAFC-I. The wiring I did earlier in this thread is from my SAFC-II as stated in the title.

Chriso, you are a great man for putting that up. Should save me some issues when i install. after counting off the wires you mentioned, i still have a blue, yellow and white wire left. Are these not used on a Karmann setup?

the leftover wires are for pressure, flap airflow meters. I havnt wired up my knocksensor but I still get a knock reading from my safc-2 It says in the manual to connect to the knock sensor with the highest output and there are 2 wires, one above eachother.
