I think I need to adjust my SAFC-II . I am getting a WB it will be installed monday. Under WOT I get black smoke. Am I correct in thinking its too much fuel? I have the boost set to 1.5bar (thats reading the gague) I have a manual boost controller. Am I correct in thinking the safc has to be changed because of the boost level. (it was set to .5 when it was tuned on a dyno) I am not boosting all over town untill the wb gets here and its tuned correctly. However I am just trying to understand that when I see black smoke under heavy acceleration that means too much fuel and an adjustment to the SAFC II will correct this.

thanks for the info. I am learning so much as I read here.. I think I spend more time here sometimes then doing my job! hehe..

Yes, a large amount of black smoke coming out of the exhaust is due to excess fuel. And yes, that can be adjusted using an SAFC. As I think you know, just don't make any adjustments until you have the wideband installed. It's best to leave it running rich for now than to over-adjust and have a lean condition.

Yes. thank you. I wont mess with it. I wanted to know if I was thinking correctly. The Wideband is gonna be here monday, and I will install it monday night. I had an LM1 in there so the spot for the sensor is still there just plugged. So it should be easy. I bought the UEGO 6 in one wideband
from LEGNA . Great seller by the way. Got it out fast with tracking.

Got the WB installed and after the car warms up when I stop at a light and idle the gauge goes over its limit. (17 is the last # I see before the --- ) at idol what should it be? while going about 80 on the bridge it seems to be arround 15 - 16. I need to learn more about the safc before I mess with it but I dont want to blow up while I am trying to learn.

^Correct. The AF at cruize and idle will vary from 14.5 to 15.6 ish.

Under boosted WOT AF should be no leaner than 12.0 if you are on a stock engine.

Remember also, that the more fuel you take out on the safc, the more timing goes into the engine.
