Okay my car can idle forever and a day and never heat up but as soon as I start driving it gets hot, then boils over ONLY when I turn it off. Now I have already checked the water pump(water is flowing through the radiator) which also means the thermostat is good, I can rev it up while it is in place and its fine. Engine temps are 220:water pump, 210:top of radiator, 170 bottom of radiator, 200: valve covers, 150: intake. I did a compression test and all is good, there's no foam in the radiator and I just replaced the radiator cap. It seems like its the factory 7m na radiator and electric fan, is it likely that a 7m radiator can't handle the pressure from a 1jz? Does anyone know how much of a difference in temp the coolant should be from the top hose to the bottom one? Thanks in advance

Get a hydro fan set up, I never have problems with my 1jz running hot. Electric fans can run your engine hot because they are not moving enough air through the rad.

e Fans would make it get hot at idle as well.

Id double check the t stat. And boiling over only when shut off could be the cap or bhg.

I have the LS400 thermal clutch fan on the water pump, and mine has not heated up at all. It will get to right around 160 and stay there, no matter how hard I am driving. Double check and make sure that your electric fans are blowing the air the right direction. If they are pushing the air forward, it would idle fine without heating up, but when you start driving, the air flow will stagnate and not cool much at all.
