I just sold my 88T, but before i did i made sure to do a burnout :evil2:

And in doing that i wanted to see how high it revved because i have never taken it past 6500 even thought reline is 6550 in >88 models. And in that i was amazed that the #ucker Revved up to 7500+... mind you that it had only light mods with fully stock electrical. I did put in a replacement ECU that was completely untouched... so i can verify that it was 100% stock electricals and read out no codes.

What amazed me more was the power at 7200rpm, but after 7250 it pretty much had no torque and same power.

What I am leading to is... that the only thing wrong with the car was the Speed-o, but i don't understand how that would override the Rev limiter. So does anyone have a hint as to what allowed it to rev to 7500+?

P.S. Engine and transmission where in Perfect working condition... with bore marks clearly visible and far past the tolerance for compression to within 5psi at 170+. It even got great millage (about 25-30 mpg) stock turbo, full synthetic, catback, shimmed stock turbo, K&N stock replacement, copper plugs, and replaced upper inner cooler pipe for a straight one.

Hey look, I gave the car away for 700 bux... And that was the first burnout i have ever done with that car, with the new owner there. I told him for that price im going to have fun, and he laughed and said ok. I even told Him to tare apart the filter to check for any metal, And There was NONE. Mind you this car had no rust and i could have sold it for 700+ with no engine AND with 6 month old tires (245's) that cost me 600 dollars that turned out to be the best tires i have ever owned, Far better the some (245) Dunlop SP5000 i had before.

I really don't think 7500 would harm a 7M-GTE, unless you have an old factory HG or are running pennzoil. Mind you i have always used Mobile One and switched to AMSOIL and put a new HG and used ARP bolts.

Now, does anyone have any incite as to why a completely stock electrical system in a 88T would allow it to pass its Rev-Limiter?

as stated above.

you are the reason buying used cars sucks. Regardless if the owner was there or not... oooooooh so I wish that you had broken the diff at that point to teach you a lesson in restraint.

sometimes this board is wrought with too much ignorance and stupidity. Luckily I am always cruising around here though.

Now, because you decided on selling a vehicle for $700 before doing some research you decided to go to the short side of stupid and trash the car?

OMG u r k00l!!!! :nono:

I did.......

But I had the rev limiter bumped up by the guy in Florida.
Was going through the lights at 8000 in 2nd gear
(stock 7M-GE, auto, 3.9 dif gears).

Did it several times.
It made no power up there, so I pulled the engine down,
and built it so it would.

Have no idea why a stock ECU would allow an engine to rev that high.

The tech was correct.

I even used it to know how fast i was going for a month... and with a 3.73 rear and 245/50/16 tires witch made the tire have 3% differance the car was going 1450rpm in 5th, 40MPH... witch came out perfectly when i ran it next to my friends cars. And just to double check i found this site too.

5th gear .753 Final Drive 3.73 tires 245/50/16
