Thought I would start a build thread since the other post was in the introductions area. Figured if I started a build thread I could ask some technichal questions and get more advice.

I basically found this Supra sitting in my brothers neighbors garage. It was burried behind boxes and boxes of junk. Turned out it was sitting there since 2001. I was able to convince him to sell it to me for $1500. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but I think its definately worth it.

Here are a couple of pics.

This car had been sitting since 2001 when it had a BHG. The PO took it to a shop to have it fixed, but the mechanic took several months to finish it. Not sure why. But the PO got pissed and demanded to get it back. So the mechanic rushed to finish it and gave it back to the owner. He did not like how it was running so he parked it and bought a new car. And it then sat there until I towed it to my house.

I've been pretty busy trying to get it to Daily Driver status and still have quite a bit of work to do. Here is a list of what i've done so far.

  • Change fluids. (Oil, coolant, fuel...)
  • Repaired vacuum mess and dry rotted hoses.
  • Replaced Main EFI Relay
  • Replaced Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter
  • Replaced Injector Seals and O-Rings (bad fuel leaks!)
  • Installed Thermostat (didn't have one!)
  • Changed Upper and Lower radiator hoses
  • Installed new Radiator Fan Shroud
  • Replaced faulty Temperature Sender/Switch

As of right now it starts and runs pretty smoothe. It doesn't overheat or smoke and it idles fine. Everything inside seems to work fine, including factory radio.

I wanted to take it for a spin, but I still have a few issues to iron out. First my brakes seem to be sticking pretty bad and my Antilock dash light is on. So I am going to have to figure that out first. And it is also leaking oil pretty bad from the Valve Covers. Most of the screws were pretty loose and looked kinda stripped. It is also missing one screw!! I'm also missing a nut on the Exhaust manifold!!

Any tips on the sticking brakes? Also do most people replace the screws on the valve covers? I've read about replacing them with a kit from Drift Motion. Also should I replace the 3rd Head cover while I replace the valve cover gaskets or should I just use the napa washers? I can get OEM parts pretty cheap so...i'm not sure what to do.

nice find!

the drift motion kit is a great idea itll fix that right up. and IIRC that 3rd cover is metal so you can just take it out and wash it off or wire brush it.
