i bought a 7mge motor w58 trans and a clutch set up from a guy for 300. i did a leak down test on the motor and only ten psi is leaking out so it seals well and i took the head off and you can still see cross hatch in the cylinders. no doubt in my mind that this will be a strong motor. im replacing the hg before i drop it in my supra and i just had a couple of questions. im using arp studs to insure that i do not have hg failure in the future, is it necissary for me to use a mhg as well? aslo when using a strait edge and a flash light in the dark no light shines through on the block or head, is it still nessicary to have both peices machined? i dont believe this motor has ever over heated or been rebuilt. i plan on using a DA and 80grt just to clean up the block surface, but i want to know if a mhg is necissary, and is it really crucial to have machining done if nothing is warped?

thanks, wilcox

Do not use a MHG unless you have the block (and lower timing cover) machined, as well as the head surface.

On a stock Toyota gasket, (And stock bolts for that matter) my 7M-GE lasted nearly half a million kilometers. I finally pulled it when I had a coolant hose failure, and had an opportunity to swap to a 7M-GTE.

could i just use a DA and ruff both surfaces up? they are both perfectly flat and square. or will a oem gasket and head studs be sufficiant. i am doing some slight mods and i like to drift around and hot rod a little bit so i want to do what i can to keep her cool, and keep the hg sealed. i have 217,xxx on the 7m in my car right now and its blown pretty bad. as long as i keep it under 5k she wont over heat but over that and it spits coolant.
