If I were going to just replace all of my rod and main bearings with standard sizes, do I need to do the whole plastigage/micrometering process? I've been reading up on TSRM http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/em/EM_69.html , and they show the how to check & determine wether your bearings need to be replaced by way of plastigage. Being that most of my bearings are scratched pretty bad I just want to replace them. So can I just look at the number on the bearing and replace it with a standard size of the same number?

There are 5 sizes of standard bearings for both rod and mains. I'm sure I can order standard size bearings through Toyota using their "number" system. Does anybody know if Clevite uses this same system, or would I just order their standard size bearings and cross my fingers? Or would I need to micrometer everything to get the correct size for Clevites?

The TRSM shows the right way to do it...don't take shortcuts here. You are asking for rod knock down the line if you do. Measure and replace with the bearing that gives you the tightest fit within the spec.

To my knowledge, Clevite's only come in a couple of sizes for the 7M and are sized according to stock thickness and "oversize" You'll need to know the thickness required to meet the TRSM spec.

How appropriate, i just went through this headache lol.

Like IJ said in my thread, after years of wear and tear, just because your crank is casting #2, doesnt mean it still measures exactly within #2 spec, so matching casting numbers to get bearing thickness doesn't seem to be the best way about it. If you're not taking it to the machinist for anything, i'd personally plastigauge to find your clearance, and mic the bearing so you know the thickness.

Or the ideal way is to have your machinist measure everything up, order larger bearings, and THEN grind the crank / line hone to match, + .0012" clearance!

Go over the last 2 pages of my thread, http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?p=265148#post265148

IJ has shared loads of insight on the subject!

Take everthing i've said with a grain of salt, i'm still learning the ways :)
