I just got the head back on after installing a new composite gasket w/arp bolts. I tried to start it and blew out the intake mani gasket and its throwing air out. I havent gotten the car started yet. First off I should have known better than to use it because the gasket was a paper type. I ordered a felpro set that will be coming in tomorrow.

I know the timing is right I have triple checked it and redid the entire procedure twice.

Any reason that just cranking on the engine should have enough pressure to even blow the paper intake mani gasket?

Could this cause the car to not start? It seems like its wanting to fire but just wont start up. Cranks over smooth and when I tested it by hand there were no hard spots when turning it over.

Wiring has been checked over a million times all sensors are plugged in and all grounds are clean and connected.

Any advice would help out a lot.

Did you check to make sure the intake manifold flange wasnt warped before you put it back on?

Ninja edit: your talking about pressure so I assume its turbo, however you posting in the 7MGE section. Is it turbo or N/A?

When you said you have triple checked the timing, have you also checked the cam timing? I mean verify #1 is at TDC, cam gears are on the marks, crank pulley is on the "0", and the rotor is pointing at the #1 plug wire?

Only thing that I can think of that would cause the "back pressure" to blow out the intake gasket is the above not all in line. Or maybe a stuck valve or related. Thinking of the last thing, did you at anytime set the head down before it was put on, on the combustion side?

The head was laid a few different ways when I was cleaning it before install.

The cam position sensor was not aligned as you said. How exactly do I do that. Thanks for your help.

EDIT: Found how to set the cps on tsrm.
