Depends on what gasket you are going to put in there - if you are mounting a metal head gasket, then yes. If you are using an OEM style composite gasket, then check the head for warpage, skim it, and bolt it back together.

In that case I'd likely suggest using the stock headbolts as well, they should hold a composite gasket just fine as long as you torque them to 72 foot pounds.

Unless you own a machine shop, you cannot skim the head yourself, it needs to be done by a pro.

If your car is running fine now and you plan on replacing it with the stocker, why screw with a good running car? Wait until it goes south if it does at all. My 2c.

is it pretty pricey to get the head skimmed off? Over $100?

Always (!!!) Skim the head when replacing gaskets.
Even if it's not blown.
Your head will always warp when you remove it from the block, but especially now since your head is bolted on the block now for at least more then 12 years.

Well, at least always get it checked and be prepared to skim it. I have pulled off heads that were perfectly flat from the factory. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

is there an easy way to check if a previous owner replaced the HG already? I asked the guy I bought the car from but he had only owned it for a month when he found out his wife was pregnant and had to sell the car, so he didn't know much of anything about the car. Don't think I'm retarded for buying a car that I couldnt get info on...this thing is clean and runs excellent!
