if I replace my head gasket right now when mine is still running good should I have the head and block lapped still, or just leave it be?

Well, at least always get it checked and be prepared to skim it. I have pulled off heads that were perfectly flat from the factory. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.thevork said:Always (!!!) Skim the head when replacing gaskets.
Even if it's not blown.
Your head will always warp when you remove it from the block, but especially now since your head is bolted on the block now for at least more then 12 years.
Agreed. I always do this.IJ. said:A small tip that may help: Undo the headbolts in the reverse of the install sequence and do it in 2>3 stages so there's less chance of bending it.
