I recall being told I have to loop the lines going into and out of the rack to keep some fluid in the rack. If I remember correctly its the line coming off the banjo bolt. Is this correct? Am I missing anything else?

Remove power steering pump and loop to/from steering rack lines to keep some fluid in rack.

Belt: Goodyear-4060390

New Idler Pulley: Dayco-49017 76mm 8 rib

Thank you

Im not going to change the rack, just need to remove power steering. Thank you for your input though.

Maybe this should be moved to General MKIII Discussion..

my bad XD
I've had my share of trouble with this as well, and the manual rack seemed worthy of attention. Good luck ^_^

Any input from the people that removed power steering or those that know the proper way to remove it? I want to be sure I'm removing it correctly and not forgetting anything.

EDIT: Used Duralast Idler Pulley 231051 Dayco Item 634110 from Autozone

Hey guys just a heads up. I used this dura last Idler Pulley and the belt crossed over to a Gates.. Total about 30 bucks. I did this on my 2JZGTE, while it worked, you have to grind down the tensioner down behind the pulley because the back of the pulley hits it. Not too much of a big deal,3 12mm bolts and about 20 min total time for this conversion.

Thanks for all the part numbers!

When I bought my car the front seal on the PS pump was toast, so I cut the belt off....thing was kind of a bitch to turn at a dead stop, but other than that not too bad. Pretty much did the same thing when I dropped the new motor in, left the belt off the new (to me) pump....was gonna bleed the system after I did the break-in runs. Removed the pump to gain access to the lower front motor to chase down coolant leak(s), and now I'm contemplating just keeping it off for good....car isn't near as difficult to steer as I remember. At any rate, no looped lines or 'fluid in the rack' as far as I know since I've owned the car... *shrug*
