Loosen the bolts, one at each end clamping them onto the steering column and rack.
Completely remove the bolts, though. There is a groove they ride in no matter how loose.
Light prying with a long prybar should get them out. Otherwise, position yourself under the car at the front and putting one end of the prybar on the shaft, hit the prybar with a hammer. It'll come out.

hm... still doesn't wanna come.. should i pry on the ends where the bolts were? or will it come off safely if i just drop the subframe... i would use more aggresive tactics, but that collapsable part worries me a bit

well, i was able to get it out, using a multi-tool, croket mallet, 1/2" breaker bar w/ socket (there were no bolts that i used the socket on), and a rather large file... yeh, don't ask...
