To burp your heater system, you need to jack the front of your car up in the air or park on a hill with the nose uphill. Make sure that your your radiator is full and have the heat on. Start the car, with the radiator cap off, and let it idle untill it gets up to operating temp. Add fluid as need untill all the air is out. You may even need to run the motor at a steady rpm of about 2k for a few moments.

Rich, I've been needing to do this for a while but dont have jack stands. Will the slope of a regular driveway be enough? Thanks.

I took the idea of one of those NAPA radiator flush&fill kits with the plastic splice in T and made it out of AN fittings. The final hose had to be shortened and the clamp cover that goes onto the head had to be removed inorder to get the hose on (it was installed while the engine was out, but it hits the firewall lip and doesn't let the motormounts lineup properly when you drop the engine back in).

my car does the same thing.. but i have a question on how to take the bubbles out.

when i turn my car on with the heater on the water comes out the radiator. will it stop coming out after a while? do i just let it do that for a little bit? my car was only on a drive way tho. does that make a difference. can someone give me details on how to do this?

secondly where do u guys get those stainless steel hoses, fittings and all??

Is it gurgling out or is it rushing out?
If it is just overflowing a little it will stop once the air bubble pushes its way through the system. Make sure your radiator cap is higher than the hose at the back of the head, it takes a pretty steep driveway.

If it rushes out when you start the engine (cap off and heater on, not operating temp yet) it may be a blown head gasket.

I got all the fittings and lines from Summitracing.com, but if you know what you are looking for you can usually find it cheaper on ebay.

This is what it looks like with the engine in:

I don't really remember how much it cost but it was over $150 for the AN-12 stuff (bought a bunch of other AN-10, -8 fittings and hose for my oil system at the same time).

The low coolent light is in the overflow bottle, fill it and the light should go out; if not then the float may be stuck and need a little coaxing, if that doesn't work it may be busted.

All the 'burping' in the world won't get rid of the heater core air air if you have a tiny BHG. Been there, done that.:icon_evil

Now that my BHG has been repaired for 1 1/2 yrs, when ever I have the coolant out and refill, I don't have the gurgle sound for more than a few days.

Here is how (thanks to a post on SF a couple of years ago):

Remove the thermostat, cut the little dangly thing off, and drill the hole out to 4mm. Re-install the thermostat (use a tiny bit of silicone gasket sealer on the rubber gasket to prevent leaks).

Start car and let idle. Fill system back up, adding coolant as needed when thermostat opens. Let engine get fully warm until it want to push some coolant out the radiator. Install a known good cap ($6, new). Fill overflow bottle 1/2 way. Add more coolant to bottle if 'low coolant' light comes on.

Air will now be able to more easily purge out thru that 4mm hole. Life will be good.

If you continue (as mine did before the BHG repair) to hear gurgle, then you will need to fix the BHG.:nono:
