Remote Oil Filter Question...

I am going to be relocating my oil filter during my 7m-ge->gte turbo project and I'm planning on using the stock oil cooler. I think that I am going to go with something like this:

And I made a diagram of the way I want to plumb it:

Now I know that the stock oil cooler drains into the oil pan, but does it need to? My turbo will drain into the oil pan and I'm planning on using the oil sending unit for the turbo feed. Are there any major problems with this setup? Thanks in advance,

-Nick

i have a gte block and i like that set up, it looks pretty good i never thought of putting the oil cooler in line of the oil return line to the sending unit.. does it hurt to have your oil constantly cooling though?

It can hurt to have the oil cooled all the time; you really want it to run right where its supposed to when the motor is warm. hence the reason for a thermostat. Sry I cannot provide a super scientific answer; but short is yes.

You should just use the adaptor and remote the filter directly off of it. Leave the oil cooler as is. That way the internal relief valve in the stock filter mount will take care of cold oil issues thru the cooler. Or you could use a thermostatic adaptor instead of the one pictured and run the cooler directly from the ports on it. Adding a bypass filter setup (preferably a toilet paper type) to the remote full flow filter would be even better.

by that meaning a sandwhich adapter with AN fittings coming out to the oil cooler, i've seen them on summit for like 40 bucks 160 degree internal thermo.

the stock set up uses oil pressure to open a valve to circulate the oil vs a PROPER set up that uses oil temp to open said valve. i would suggest the temp version.

I would use the kit like you have but in place of the stock oil cooler go to the junk yard and get one off of an rx7. Those are big enough to handle all the oil of the moter going thru it, and they have a built in t-stat.

The 2nd gen. RX7? That sounds like a pretty good idea if I can find one. Thanks

np. I'm going this route also. The 1st or 2nd gen. will work. The only difference is the 2nd gen has 1 more row on it. The only problem is finding a place to mount it. I don't have ac. so its going where the condenser was.
