I'm going to be putting the battery in the trunk area of my MK2. I got a few Q's maybe some of you that have done it could answer for me.

1- Do I need a "sealed" battery box and a vent tube going outside the car? Or will the regular plastic battery box work?

2-To meet NHRA specs, other than bolting it to the body, do I need to meet any other specs? like location from edges? things like that.

3-Exactly how do you tie the new large battery cable into the existing wiring?

1. Get a sealed box
2. I dont think location mattters, just make sure it is securely fastened. Also you will need to route a cutoff switch to the outside of the car.
3. Run the wire back to the engine bay and create a 'junction' if you will and run power to its original sources as if the battery were there instead.

1. i got a moroso nhra approved poly battery box. i also got the moroso cable kit.
2. location does not matter as long as it is inside the sealed box and u have a cutoff switch running outside. my box is in the right rear and i have a rod that sticks out my right rear molding under the taillight asembly. the rod is removable.
3. about the wiring, from the factory, there are two cables coming off of the + post of the battery, one goes to the fuse box and the other goes to the starter. and the negative cable goes to the block and to the fender i think.
i ran the cable from the battery in the back to the starter post, then i ran a wire from my fuse box to the post on the starter and vuala, now u have 12v where u should. lmk if u have any questions.

great information guys! WHeres the cheapest place to buy a "kit"? or should I buy it in peices?
I'm not entirely sure how this external switch works. I've seen them on the race cars... but never really looked at it and how it works and all. What gauge cable did you run for the +? What do you do with the negative wire from the battery, run it all the way up to the front also?

How am I supposed to bolt it to the "frame"?! I was planning on running a sheet of .120" under the sheet metal to prevent "pull through" of the bolts. We don't exactly have frames... What the hell.

i just drilled two holes in the floor in the back and put my studs through the holes, no sheet metal or anything, also u need 3/8ths studs to hold your box down, anything smaller and u wont pass race inspection.
