So I'm trying to install RHL 9 on a spare computer and I can't get X Window working. The first time I installed it, set up X Window, expected it to boot into the GUI and I got pwned. X Window config error. I tried to load the built in config but that failed. So I said fuck it.

Reinstalled in text mode, ran the startx command and this time it told me what my error was: No screens found. How can I fix it? HALP

One thing I would definitely do is check Linux forums for your flavor [Redhat 9] and make sure that your hardware is compatible. I'm sure they have gotten better over time, but my main problem with Linux was hardware compatibility at the start.

type this
nano (or pico or vl) /ect/conf/xorg.conf (or something like that, i'm hung over from my birthday)
and get cracking, it's not that hard to configure yourself

If you are new to linux... Go use Ubuntu... it is all set up for you... I prefer Gentoo... but everyone has their tastes... I would asume making sure you have the proper graphics drivers installed, proper screen resolutions, etc etc etc... but first I would look into ubuntu if you are having issues with xconfig

I actually have access to Ubuntu as well, both free. I'll try that stuff in a bit... Might finally be getting a Supra this week! =]]]]]

Red Hat is definately not for starters...

I haven't touched Linux in a while (or Unix based Mac OSX), but it shouldn't be too hard. Most of the help is built into the programs themselves, and you just gotta search through it and find it...
