Well I decided to recondition the used fan clutch i bought from Rich @ SIP.

I armed myself with jetjocks instructions

Removed the extremely tight screws :: angry ::

I pried open the two halves

p1537857_4.jpg

Drained the old silicone oil out

p1537857_5.jpg

p1537857_6.jpg

p1537857_7.jpg

and got to cleaning

p1537857_8.jpg

On the instructions it says how to test the control valve, being heat the coil up with hot water or a blow dryer. How long will it take with a small blow dryer before i see movement? Ive got one of those travel blow dryers.

Also it says to fill with new oil into the half where the reservoir is. Is that the coil side (front) or the back half?

I included pics in case anyone was planning to do this wanted to see pics just so they arent confused.

Thanks!

3000cst Silicone oil you can get it from Toyota or Hobby Shops. If its seized yes it can solve the problem to my understanding.

Quoted from the instructions:

"After cleaning out all of the old silicone from the fan clutch halves, add about 50mL of silicone to the lower half of the clutch. This should be just enough to fill the holes and not overflow into the O-ring groove"

So, why would you put oil on the O-ring?

BTW.........Did you do this in your bathroom?:biglaugh:

I swiped the o-ring with some oil to get it to stick in the grove itself. I did fill the lower half with oil but the o ring groove is on the ouside of that whole piece.

Just wanted to be sure. As I read it (too literally I guess), I thought oil may be bad for that particular o-ring. I would normally do the same, but that line would have probably have deprived my O-ring that right without asking. I've got a few fan clutches in my shed that I can play with. I'm another of those who didn't know this was rebuildable. Thanks for the write up!

Pretty cool. I have an extra clutch so I may do this. How is it working out so far? I agree that this should be stickied.
Well first one i did i didnt tighten the screws down enough i shouldve used thread locker and seal sweller so it leaked. Second one works perfectly as it should and i sold that one to a buddy. Im about to buy a new OEM one so i can redo my first one again.

I remember the first time I did this I put too much oil in and the thing was permanently locked. Sounded like an 18 wheeler truck!

Use an impact driver to get those screws out.
