Ok i have what might be a stupid question but i need to ask

I just installed a new rebuilt alt for a 93 Lexus SC300 Something about the alt just does not add up though. It is bigger then the original alt and the pulley on it seems bigger as well.

From what i understand this alt should be a direct replacement and it does not make much sense to me that the unit is bigger in more then one way.

it seems that with the new larger alt my serpentine belt is not perfectly aligned anymore with the other pulleys.

I just caused one of the ribs to shred of the belt. i am unsure if this is due to the alignment or the fact that with the larger pulley it was almost impossible to get the belt on even with pushing the tensioner all the way down. As far as the Degree that it is off it is less then a 10 degree difference but a difference non the less.

Did i do something wrong or have the wrong part.

this is what i bought.

I think that I bought the same one. It is in fact off a little bit. I had to take almost a half inch off the bottom mounting bracket to get the belt to line up. It is still off just a hair and makes a little bit of belt noise. I also replaced the pulley that came on it with a driftmotion one.

Well i do not have the tools to grind down some metal and it's already on there.

If i put a larger belt something 1 inch larger do you think that will help?

Ninja edit i know this sounds lazy but working on my car outside in the cold is not exactly and easy or enjoyable task

Unfortunately, the pulley isn't the problem. Like I said, it's the lower mounting bracket. The top one is lined up properly. But, the bottom one make the alternator cockeyed. I didn't realize it till after I started the car. The noise was unbearable. So, what I did was set both alternator side by side and marked where it needed to be cut. You might be able to do that and take it to a repair shop or exhaust shop and have them cut it. It's pretty easy to do.

The alternator itself is bigger and so its the pulley, Its fine though. I never had a problem with mine, reving to 7500rpms constantly bouncing off the limiter, no issues..

I bought mine at the local parts store with the lifetime warranty ;)

Well i will try and take it off this weekend.

Currently i am stuck using my car as a DD so its tough to get anything done on it.

For my alt it is the bracket on the top that is forcing it out further? AF1JZ I am pretty sure i put it in the right way around lol With the connectors at the top?

I will feel quite stupid if with the different alt they need to be at the bottom instead. Not sure if the cable and connector will reach.

Maybe i will get home fast enough today to still have some light left to do something.

Good luck Josh. Do you know for a fact that you have the right alternator? Could they have sent you the wrong one?

I think i have the right alternator. The mounting points line up correctly and it has the correct connectors. There is no model number on the unit so other then the general look of the thing i don't really have a way to tell.
