Hey everyone, i have just put in a rebuilt 7m ge engine and when i go to rev it at like 3 or 4 grand it makes an awful sound like its low on oil or something. But i check the oil and theres plenty of oil in there, it idles nice and runs nice but the kinda grinding sound just annoys. Its not loud but its just pissing me right off since its a brand new rebuilt engine and its making this sound like my old engine. My other 7m engine did the same and i'm just wondering if its a normal on these engines?
thanks for reading

Did you use the oil pump from your old engine? Is the oil pump in this engine new? How's the oil pressure? If the oil pump aint getting it your engine will make a sound similar to what you describe. Good luck.

Hey Supra Bad, yes i did use the same oil pump, and yes the oil pressure needle always sits low. Should i get a new engine from the warrantee and a new oil pump while i swap it out or just go ahead and get a new oil pump and just put it in with the rebuilt engine. The shitty oil pump hasnt effected the rebuilt engine that bad has it? So what should i do, swap the engine while i have the warrantee or just get a new oil pump and then my engine will run better? thanks

Yeah that sucks...I always learn everything the hard way too. I feel for ya. Keep in mind that oil pressure on any 7m motor is pretty low to begin with. My opinon is that if the oil pump is indeed the culprit then there probably is some sort of damage to the new engine (especially during the critical break-in period). Unfortunately, it probably damaged the engine in such a way that it won't become obvious for a while. I'm talking about premature bearing wear. In the long run your new engine won't last as long as it would have if this problem never existed. I'd try to get the engine replaced if you can under warranty even though you're probably dreading having to remove the old one again and swap out the new one. I think in the long run you'll be glad you went to the trouble of doing it. Let me know what happens. Good Luck.
