Rebuild or replace motor?

No it's not my motor.....................Thank God.

I know where a 1988 turob targa top supra is for sale. It ran hot, and hurt the rings. The car cranks, but it smokes real bad. My question to you is this; Would it running hot hurt the pistons? Of course he said that he cut it off immediately. How much would a rebuild kit cost me? What should I replace? I checked at HPF and they want 800.00 for a set of pistons. Should I buy a 1jz clip from Driftmotion? I don't know what all gets hurt when a car runs hot. The radiator has a hole in it, all the water left it and then it ran hot. I know I will need to get the head reworked, but I don't know what type of engine work will have to be done. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to figure up the price it would take to fix and add the 1000.00 that he wants for the car. I think I can get it for less. The paint is a real pretty white pearl metallic. It has brand new tires mounted on stock sawblades. I didn't check the shaft play in the turbo yet, but I will. It is an automatic. He saids it shifts perfectly and as of right now that's all I have to go by. Thanks bunches.....................lol

That thread sounds all jumbled up. cliff notes....
1) Does anyone sell a rebuild kit? I looked at HPF, but didn't see one.
2) Would I need to replace the pistons since the car ran hot?
3) I don't want to half ass do it, but I would like to know roughly what it would cost me to get it fixed.
4) I may put a 1jz in it if it's not alot more. I would be willing to pay a little more for the swap if I can get a good motor...........lol

2. You'd have to get pistons/block inspected to know for sure.
3. Maybe a grand or so conservatively depending on what you have to replace.
4. 1j solves all problems in life. lol j/k

Thanks JAV. I didn't really know if anyone could answer these questions for me. The only real way to know the damage is to buy the car and take the motor out. I was just trying to see if someone had a rough estimate to see if the car would be worth trying to save................lol

With that much work I'd talk him down a lot unless the body is mint.
I got a running car in good shape for $1,000 so talk him down as much as you can if you decide to buy.

Yeah, I'm going to offer him 600.00 but I will pay the 1000.00 if I have too. I think 750.00 is fair for both of us. The body on the car is mint. The paint is easily a 7 or 8 out of 10. It is pearl white with grey trim. The tires are brand new. The interior looks great also. The drivers seat is worn on the edge where you get in the car....................lol

Sorry, Johnathan. I haven't taken pictures of the car yet. I was coming out of Jacks restraunt this morning when the guy approached me, and asked if I needed another car like mine for parts. I told him I would look at it. He lives about an hour from me. I didn't have my camera with me when I went. I will get pictures next week. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy the car. I don't see where I can go wrong. That just means more money tied up into ANOTHER supra.................lol

FWIW I got a JDM engine installed... came with a nice BHG though while I was on the highway, pulled over slowing down and it just got hotter from the lack of air, needle was pegged max, I shut the car off.

Several months later, we rebuilt it.... MHG+ARPS but I did change all the bearings and machine both surfaces and get everything else cleaned up. So far so good.

Ultimately, however, I will get getting a fully forged, balanced and blueprinted engine with oversized valves, etc... eventually.

What's the warm tub for? I think it's parallel with the arm and not across the wrists. I kind of hope I screw it up somehow and live long enough to see my wife win ROTM...................lol
