Rebuild complete, engine purs, smoke w/plasticy smell from turbo area...help?

So I just completed my rebuild from the HG. Started the car, runs and sounds perfect. Some smoke coming from around the turbo with a plastic burning like smell, doesn't smell like coolant or oil. New gaskets were placed on the exhaust manifold, turbo to exhaust manifold, turbo to elbow, oil return line gaskets both on block and turbo replaced. Any ideas what could be causing the smoke. I took the turbo off the motor for the MHG rebuild and set it aside and put it back on when it was time and started the engine. The smoke is not bellowing out, I'd say its between light to a moderate amount.

Thanks guys. First time ever rebuilding an engine and besides the smokey turbo, runs great(so far haha, I know).

Glad your rebuild is running smooth. Soundsto me just like some grease and oil from your hands burning off the hot stuff ie. exhaust manifold/turbo. Its pretty normal.

Yeah that happened to me too after my rebuild (only 2months ago). When I cranked her up and let her purr, there was a little bit of smoke, and then when I took her up to the gas station to top off the tank, as soon as I pulled up to the pump a Load of smoke came out from under the hood from the turbo. Freaked out and popped the hood and found nothing.

My guess, just trash, oil, greast, etc. are just burning off the manifold/turbo/downpipe. It's okay man, It happens to all of us. :icon_bigg

Just make sure the speedo cable is not too close to the downpipe ;)
Had one melt, worked fine till it cooled down, then snapped.

They are probably talking about building a brand new motor.

Anytime you work on an exhaust manifold, you most likely use some form of penetrating oil whether it's WD or PB, turpentine or whatever you use. That, on top of your grimey mitts all over that assembly. It should burn off in 1 or 2 heat cycles. Check the turbo feed and return lines and the CPS o-ring if you are paranoid.
