I was sitting in stop and go traffic today and notice that if I touch the gas or let off the gas there was a "klunk" from the rear of the car, so I put it on the lift when I got back to work and talked to some other people in the shop and we came to the conclusion the I need a new unversal joint (Spider kit as Toyota calls it). Well on the way home there was a vibration at about >60 mph, could the fact the I need a new univeral joint (Spider kit)be causing this vibration? I am going to recheck the balance of the tires tomorrow, but I don't think that is the issue because the tires were just mounted and balanced by myself no more than about 3 weeks ago. If there are any other things that I should be looking at or if I am headed in the right directions please let me know. Any info or input is greatly appreciated!!

Check the bolts that secure your differential to the car. I had the same problem and when i checked it out i discovered my differential bolts were ridiculously loose. Sounds simple but its something i didnt think about before i found it.

sort of on topic but if anybody's ever had sort of an alarm clock or high pitch buzzer type vibration from the hatch let me know what it was before I send my buddy back there to try and find it LOL.

Yeah! I get that buzz too...only at certain rpm, mostly in the 50-60 mph range on the highway. Kinda sounds like a resonance based on the exhaust note. You got a Blitz NUR Cat-back?

sounds like a bad center support bearing... mine did the same thing, so i replaced that, but the rear-end still makes that "clunk" all the time... I had my mechanic look at it, and they said that the diff is a bit worn out, causing some play in the driveline, he says that I would have to replace the differential completely to get rid of it.... So i just deal with it. Hope i helped.

nah it's a custom 3" exhaust + flowmaster muffler...but only at certain RPM's will it rattle so I know it's a resonance issue, sounds almost like it's coming from the latch but I can't pinpoint it while driving at the same time. Bugs the crap out of me because it sounds just like my damn alarm clock!

Yeah...bugs the crap out of me too. Thought it might be the seals and/or the support tabs on the hatch. Replaced both and it's still there. Can't find the buzz...it only happens at certain times.

I do get a rumbling noised from the center bearing. Got a 3.9 LSD with a TRD casing I need to install. I'm going to use an aluminum driveshaft from DSS and just eliminate the center bearing altogether.

Rearend will typically not vibrate unless you have a loose pinion. Most likely this is a driveline vibration. We have solid 1 piece driveshafts if you are interested. Give me a call toll free 866-922-5297.

Actually, it does sound simple..but the same thing happened to me. The freaking rear end bolts ( driveshaft to Diff.)were loose....very loose..and I found out after i spent money aligning the car and balancing the wheel..etc.

Carrrier bearing can cuase that as well.
