Re-Tapping Exhaust for Bigger Exhaust Studs

One of my exhaust threads inside the head is completely shot and won't hold the bolt = Nasty/annoying exhaust leak.

I figure it would probably be best to just re tap all the stud holes and use brand new bolts for them. If they are currently 10 x 1.25, what would be a good size to go up to on the thread?

I'm kind of a rookie with using my tap and die set so I don't quite know my way around it yet.

Thanks in advance!

If you make the studs too big then the manifold wont go on...

time certs and heli coils work good.

The cheap usually ends up expensive!! It's $70......really dude. Economy is bad but not that bad. A little over $10the a stud and all you haveto do is take time. I did the DM kit and it worked fine. Just remember that first sentence.

I've seen that an am looking for a less expensive, yet efficient alternative. Thanks though.

If you were to try and piece that kit together, it'll cost you nearly the same. That kit even includes the cutting lube and anti-seize. Cheap+Supra just don't mix.

I honestly regret doing 7/16 studs in my early days.

In my later days I had my machine shop use the metric Serts. :)

Metric Helicoils can be done by DIY'ers as well. Believe it or not Studs maybe cheaper from toyota then ace.

^ Wise words Alex. I've pointed out in the past why that kit is a poor choice.

Must make different manifolds harder to install due to the less 'wiggle' room?

I just heli'd my own with the same thread so I can use OEM studs.

I pieced together my own 7/16 kit, when i realized that DM charges close to $29 in shipping on that kit.
I purchased black oxide hardened studs, ground/hardened washers, 7/16 helicoil kit, and self-locking exhaust nuts for about $50 total shipped. Problem was, i had to piece the whole setup together from 3 different sources.
