RC injectors and stock fuel rail

I just come from a friend were we put a set of 550 cc RC injectors on his 7M engine.

After mounting them and putting the fuel rail in place it was impossible to plug in the injector plugs as they would hit the fuel rail.

Is this normal?

We had to cut six notches in the fuel rail in order to get enough clearance to plug and unplug the plugs.

Have we done something wrong or is this a common problem? I've never heard of it before.

My '87, I had a stock fuel rail with 550's on it, I didn't have any issues..

That is weird. You had the injector clips between the fuel rail and the valve cover?

We had to remove 1 mm of the fuel rail at each injector to be able to fit the plug.

they must be the delphi injectors. they are ~1/16" difference in length. usually you just shim it up a little like this:
