well I go to take my car into the shop today to get the tranny leak fixed wich is the speedo cable adapter thingy. Says it should cost no more then a 100 buxs. HE tells me that it will cost 400 buxs becauses its a hard part to find and the only place to order it is from a guy in ontairo. Other option is he said order one from the states for 200 buxs but it would take awhile. He was told by the guy in ontario that these cars are infamous for leaking speedo cables. My other option is to search the wrecking yards for one. Any ideas/info/input???

Find another shop. It sounds like that guy knows squat. Upper and lower cable should be around $100 for both, and they're pretty simple to replace.
Agreed. I've never heard of this being a common problem, parts are not hard to get from any Toyota dealer (though they'll be cheaper from the dealer here on the forums) and it's just plain not that hard to replace.

oh man, do people really get fucked up the ass like this all the time?

that piece is held on by ONE bolt. you guys have to learn how to work on your own cars.

invest in a set of tools, a floor jack and some jack stands. they will pay for themselves in money saved by not paying some douche bag who is only out to take you for all youve got.

I do have my own set of tools. my dad has tons of tools and pretty much everything u could possibly need. If changing the speedo cable sounds that easy then well Mabye I will attempt to do it myslef. Just need to figure out where to get the part.

oh well im buying new plugs anyways when i get the cash. AND as we speak im in the process of building a boost leak tester. Hopefully things turn out good becuase i had this extreme feeling of giving up on the car and selling it. At least if i can get this boost thing fixed it will remind me of what the car can do. Then i just have to worry about the leaks :nono:

The auto cable is 3 pieces. None of them costing over $60 USD.

The piece you need I suspect is much cheaper. Tell the mechanic you can bring him the part yourself, just order it from Toyota. Or, do the job yourself. :)

dude just ditch that mechanic and pic up a phone book and just start calling parts stores in about 15 min. i bet you will find a bunch of places that will sell you oem parts for hella cheep. as far as sensors go i usually just hit my local toyota place but it seams as though other places just arent as cool as the parts guys in my town.
