Raspy Exhaust over 3k

Well when I first bought my supra I noticed the exhaust was kind of raspy/rattling.. so a while goes by and I pick up a new muffler to replace the old one that was in pretty bad shape, get it installed. The sound is still the same.. so I figure it's the resonator (I don't have any cats), so I get that removed aswell. So now I just have a straight pipe back, no head sheilding on the lower part of the manifold... and the raspy sound is still there above 3k! The sound gets quieter after about 4k but it's still there. So, my question is, what the hell else could it be if it's not exhaust related? Bad valves or something? Loose exhaust manifold? any ideas?

I have this same problem,
but it has nothign to do with anything technical.(well in my case it doesnt, dunno about yours)
check all of your mounts,
My problem is it rattles when accelerating, because i'm missing one rubber hold, to the exhaust so it rattles when I take off, only does it some times, doesnt bother me.

alot of aftermarket mufflers with dual outlets will do that, mine did and i hated it, so i switched to a single outlet and its fine. i think its something to do with the sound vibrations,
btw, im running all stright 2.25 with only a 18" turbo muffler, then i nice tip.
it sounds awesome, every one likes it. very cheap too.

hmm, well the muffler I took off originally did it, but it was a twin tip, but I think it was factory.. there is no sheilding left in my exhaust system.. it could be a rubber mount but i dont think it is, i've been under there many times and haven't seen any missing... maybe I'll try a single tip muffler..

My setup is the one that was on he car when I bought it, I'm going NA-T so I didn't feel the need to replace it right now. 3" catback coming in the next few months WoOt. But on mine the exhaust manifold has ruster through in one spot, haha and where the piping meets the inlet of the muffler there's a hole...

i got a bit of a rattle to but everything is stock and i checked and i think i have all my rubber holders

check to see if any of your heat shields are rusted at the spot where there held on, they might be rattling.

Yeah, I go back and forth on just a single turbo back system or getting a cat-back and mix and match a test pipe, downpipe and elbow. We'll see though

I can definately relate to your problem. When I bought the car it there was a slight raspy sound. I did see that someone at one point put a hose clamp over the exhaust pipe just before the cat. I think that this is where there might be an exhaust leak and where I am getting the sound. I recently added a 2.5" test pipe to my Pacesetter 2.5" Cat-back and it just seemed to amplify the sound. Now it's kind of annoying like you say, between 3200-4000 RPM. In my case though I think that it is just that slight exhaust leak causing that raspy exhaust note.

"Turbo" muffler? What kind is that?

Can someone further explain this "raspiness"? I'm not quite getting it, lol... Maybe a vid?

thats what the exhaust shop called it, i looks like a short glass pack/cherry bomb. but it has a off center flow through design.
alittle more quiet than a glass pack.
yeah i know the name is gay, ::hah:: they call it that so civic owners will buy it.
