r154 or w58

i recently bought a turbo automatic supra. i have a parts supra also that i achually used to drive. its a 5 spd NA.

i know the turbo motors come with a r154 for a 5 spd, but i've been told the w58 tranny will bolt up...
i know the w58 is not as strong, but i would like to know if it would bolt up... any help would be nice...

Itll bolt up. Youll need the ECU for a turbo motor though.

what exactly are you doing? replacing the r154 with the w58? if so, just swap trannys and associated parts. no need to mess around with ECU's.

The W58 will bolt up and having a complete parts car will make the swap a lot easier. There is a ton of info on auto/manual swaps here and SF. I would want to get an R154 parts car if I had to do the swap but the W58 is right there....

No shaeff he is talking about swapping his auto equipped turbo supra with a w58 from a NA parts car that he has.

But do just like shaeff said and swap everything over it will all bolt right up. Im not sure whether the ECU will need to be swapped, but I kind of doubt it. You will probably just have some wires that plugged into the tranny that you no longer need

There are tons of threads on the auto to manual swap. Just use the search feature and you will get a wealth of info.

oh i see. yes, the AUTOMATIC ECU will work fine with the 5 speed transmission.

and for the computers it doesn't matter, just splice the connector that corresponds to your tranny on

i would recommend changing the ecu though cause it is different from the manual tranny if i remeber right don't know for sure will get back to ya on that though.

I ran a rebuilt W58 with a GT30 at 9 psi and it started showing signs of stress so I pulled it out before I trashed it.

ECU's use inputs from automatic trans that effect things like idle etc,

i'm running (if i remember right) an automatic ECU in my turbo swapped N/A chassis, with a w58. everything works fine.

thanks fellas... the car thats now the parts car was actually auto when i bought it, but i 5 speeded that shit.. i know about all the ecu stuff..


i just wasnt forsure if the w58 would bolt up.. but now i know it will
