Ok so Ive been faithfully holding onto my auto since I got my car last year and finally I cant handle having to select 1st and 2nd gear manually. With the low idle problem it makes driving damn near impossible. Also the safety switch that locks the gear from moving from N to R is broken--> very very dangerous.

Asked my mate to put aside his r154 conversion kit and just picked it up yesterday for $1900 for everything including the manual ECU.

Gonna cost me another $1000 to install + i need a clutch kit but after that I should be able to control my low idle problem a bit better and make driving a whole lot more enjoyable.

Ive dropped $11 000 into this car so far but guess I just have to bite the bullet and throw in the r154.

Good lord you got taken! It's an R154 not a V160. Grand for install is probably right if you pay a shop to do it, though. Do it yourself! It's not difficult. Just nuts and bolts.

hmm interesting you say this. I hope this is because its much cheaper in the states. I made sure I did my research before I agreed to buy it, and the cheapest reconditioned r154 in Sydney at this point in time is $2700 and a used one is around $1800 without the conversion kit and computer (manual turbo ecu's here are in excess of $170, auto ones are common though) I guess it has to do with rarity of the tranny at a particular point in time. The prices do fluctuate quite alot. Supply and demand :)

Posted this on supraforums.com.au as well , they should be able to give me a better idea wether I got "taken" or not.

Anyway whats done is done , dont have the time resources or space to hook it up myself so I am paying a shop experienced with these conversions to do it and do it right.

A built 340 makes for a nicer Supra ;)

initially I preferred to stay with my stock 340 but all the problems just became to much. Add into the fact that its a non turbo auto mated to a 7mgte...not going to last much longer.

No one around here in Sydney has the experience or knowledge to rebuild my a340 and im sure the whole exercise would be way more expensive then my r154. My goal is only 350rwkw so this should be enough.

Oh yeah, parts are much cheaper here. Didn't notice your location. I've seen R154s as cheap as $200 in used but working condition here. That explains it.

You don't need the manual ECU to run a manual transmission. You can still use your automatic ECU with the R154.

Manual ECU can't be use with an auto tranny, but an auto ECU can be used for either.

I recently swapped a 1JZ ECU M/T for a 1JZ ECU A/T w/ the R154, it's only a 30 minute plug and play job.

All you need is a screw driver really.

Really, $200? I might need to move back to Indiana then. Last time I was pricing working condition R154s with 150,000+ miles were all going for $500-600. Of course, what's worst we can't even give a A340 or W58 away here.

You can't here either. I have two working A340's here that I pretty much am giving away to whoever will pick them up (to use in a car and not recycle).

Really? How is this possible?

bypassing the neutral safety start switch. To do that, on the AUTO harness, there is 4 plugs that go the the tranny, one is a round plug with 3 wires, white, black, and blue, just splice the white abnd black together (using the tranny side of the harness is best so you don't have to cut up the engine harness). to make reverse lights work, use the blue wire from that plug and there is a 6 wire round plug, all you need is the black one from there; use the blue and black to connect to the 2 wire plug coming off the manual transmission.

Unless you're happy to do a loom and ecu swap without going though the splicing and cutting work.
