R154 experts needed

ok so went runnin it

1st then went to shift second and there it went no second... its a bitch to pull out then slow go to put it in first it goes for two maybe three miles then try to put in neutral an i let out the clutch boom stil in first then there goes first when i finally get it out

so no first or second

then try backin off the light and cant get in reverse


get it home in third poor clutch and here it sits

im hearing the 1-2-r shifter fork could be the culprite... i try to put it in it seems to go an nothing but puttin it in i dont feel the gears engage so im pretty sure this is it

so can anyone tell or better show a picture of how to get to or replace the 1-2-r shifter fork or atleast how much of a bitch its goin to be to replace??

You have to disassemble pretty much the entire transmission. Good opportunity for you to do a rebuild while you are in there, or have it professionally rebuilt!

well you could just split the case, pull the rails out, change the fork leaving all the gears and shafts assembled, and be on your way. but at that point if you have the cash you might as well get it rebuilt. i say if you have the cash go for it. if you don't just change the fork. this happened to someone a couple months ago except he broke the bolt that holds the fork to the rail and i think he decided to just change the bolt. and thanks to my online diagnosis he know exactly what to look for. :naughty:

and that is most likely what is wrong with yours. its just a .02 cent bolt. when you bust a fork there is usually a horrible sound that you will hear as the broken fork gets beat to even more shit...


edit: then again i don't know how mechanically incline you are so this might be a bad idea. depending on you experience you might want to take it to a professional.

well im getting another trans tomorrow but i still want to tear into it and fix it to have a spare but i want to do it myself

If you want to do it yourself, you'll need access to a good press and some bearing pullers/splitters. You might not need one if you're just chasing down a bent shift fork, but if you want to replace synchros or bearings, a good press is a must.

You'll also want to have the TSRM handy...

Yep, MC does sell parts separately. You better know what you're doing though, there's a ton you can do wrong when rebuilding a tranny. Definitely NOT a DIY if you don't know what's going on in there. I personally know I would f*** up trying to rebuild a tranny :biglaugh: .. theres a surprisingly huge amount of parts that come outta those things.

And OP, heck PM that guy ^ about the rebuild. Guys like him that do multiple rebuilds get all the screw-ups out of the way in the first few rebuilds and generally know what they're doing a lot better than someone who has never taken apart a tranny. I would know from taking apart my W58 LOL
