My 88 has a full 3 inch exhaust all the way through a turbo muffler. To quiet the exhaust should I add a resonator or change the muffler? Please recommend what type of resonator or muffler you would suggest I put on.

Quiet mufflers are more restrictive, too. If he really has a turbo, I can't see that being a wonderful prospect. Especially a muffler designed for an NA's much lower exhaust flow.

A resonator should help quiet it down too, if you don't want to add restriction to your exhaust. Also, a better turbo muffler might help. The one you've got on there might be really cheap or in need of replacing.

A note for future questions: A bit more description should help massively when searching for answers/recommendations from other people. For example.. describe the muffler better. Also, do you have leaks in your exhaust system before the muffler? Anything you can tell us relating to the exhaust is good.

don't listen to the nay sayers. There are always quieter exhaust in the 3 inch flavor. For instance one of the quietest hands down. The Tanabe Hyper Medallion. Great exhaust and quiet. For a droning exhaust that will give you headaches. Blitz NU-R1. To f'ing loud. Quite does NOT have to be restrictive. Remember, the quietness is the function of the ENTIRE exhaust system and not just the cat back. ;)

I can't believe people think the Blitz Nur Spec is loud. I had a ST162 Celica with a cheap Monza cat back system that WAS loud, droned and would give you a headache. A Nur Spec system is nowhere near annoying IMHO. Since installing it, I drive with the windows down more often to hear its sweet sound and listen to the stereo less. Even on the highway, a Nur Spec is civil, especially with the silencer in. If it’s too loud, you're too old!

I second the loudness vote for the Blitz. I had a NURSPEC on mine the day i picked it up, and my god it was so loud i HAD to get the HKS T-16 on there.

im running the BLITZ nur-spec and it IS loud, probably because of the ddp exhaust leek and the other leaking exhaust gasket i have. But still get that droning sound going up a hill part throttle.

Perhaps on smaller displacement cars where the air moving through the exhaust is not as much at the same rev as a higher displacement car. But on a 7m, I know for a fact it is stupid loud. Especially in the lower octave of the sound frequency spectrum. Roughly around 100+ db A weighted (low 90db in cab A weighted). That is LOUD. remember displacement also has a TON to

In my experience, a NA car is more loud than a turbo car. I had a 2G NA eclipse with a full exhaust (4-1 header, 2.5" hi flo cat, into 3" Megan Racing catback) and that thing sounded wicked (not to mention loud). I have my full 3" turbo back exhaust on my supra (megamouth DP, 3" testpipe, 3" RSR GTII) and it is loud, but no where near as loud as my NA was. BTW, the the egines where 2.0L and 3.0L respectfully and the smaller one was louder (could have been the turbo deadning the sound of the 3.0L, but I know for a fact the RSR is considered to be one of the louder exhaust for the MKIII.)
