Remove spare, jack, a/c, cruise control, driver's seat is extremely heavy; replace with a passenger seat, rear wiper motor, antenna motor, and an aluminum driveshaft makes a big difference.

Aren't there entire threads dedicated to weight reduction?

Battery to the back improves weight distribution, but actually increases weight, since you need long runs of heavy wire to make it work.

If you're serious about removing weight, though, the sound deadening is actually a fair amount of mass.

I used to have a complete list on my computer of all the parts on the car and what they weighed. Can't find it now. Our cars are not that heavy compared to most others. My father in laws S2000 is close to the weight of my 90 2J.

In general, the MA70 weighs more than most. When specifically to comparable items it is a lot more. My full weight 1990 Mustang GT was 3415 with my fat ass in it at 230 lbs. For example. Even the IROC didn't weigh that much.

Replace the battery with a lighter variant. Optima makes some nice lightweight batteries. If you're feeling spendy, Braille makes some REALLY light options.

Also, while the sound deadening isn't light, it isn't as heavy as people make it seem, AND it is centered, and low in the car. Doesn't really hurt COG much, and makes the car that much more luxurious. Something I'll keep on my car, but to each their own. :)

How heavy was your father in law? :p

To the OP, my best recommendation is to reduce unsprung weight. Nothing will be quite as noticeable in every respect of driving.

How? Wheels and rotors? There isn't really anything else.

Wheels and rotors, yes. Calipers are another fairly big area you can lighten things up. Tires to a *small* extent, but that is going to be a case-by-case basis.

Suspension components are also unsprung weight, correct? I may be mistaken there, but I thought they were. Either way, yet another area you can lose a bit of weight. Getting an aluminum or carbon driveshaft, aluminum radiator, swapping in an LS...

If you're feeling like spending some money, you can always start replacing parts with lighter items. Carbon fiber hoods are a fairly easy to obtain way to drop 30lbs. Replacing the front and rear crash bars with aluminum (I plan on snagging the ones from my LS400 for the Supra), there are all SORTS of things you can do. To keep it a nice car still though... be prepared to spend a bit of money.

For day-to-day weight reduction, just follow the autocross rule: If it isn't bolted to the vehicle, take it out.

do the crash bars from the ls400 swap right over???
Doubt it. Not too worried about it though. The reason I'll have them is that the Chevy and the LS400 in my sig are going to become one in a few months, and the LS400 body will be leftover. The guy making it happen... he's pretty awesome with a welder. We'll make it work. ;)
