Quick Trim Question

Ive seen pictures of some MK III's with what looks like solid (smooth) trim. My trim is ribbed at the bottom. What is the difference or what have people done? It looks like the retro spec may be smooth (at least in the pictures) but they do not sell the middle tail light piece so how are people matching them up? Thanks in advance.

you have the 86.5-88 trim has a metal brace in the back of the trim. 89-92 trim has no metal in it and is shapped diffrent.

and for your second question i think thay paint all moldings the same color so its less noticable.
