Am in the process of replacing my weatherstripping and the front windshield one when removed showed signs of rust. After messing with getting the rusted screws out I found there was only 2 small rust spots so I grinded them down to bare metal and applied a self etching primer.

My question is will I need to apply another layer to "seal" this in or will it be fine like it is. It is located underneath the metal strip that holds the gasket on.

From my understanding you should never leave primer exposed, it soaks up moisture. You have to seal the primer or cover it with actual paint.

Thanks /\ and your correct I actually looked it up for a while longer and found that out. I just put some primer over it then some paint and although it doesnt match its under my weatherstripping so it shouldnt be an issue lol.

I would advise anyone replacing the weatherstripping to check under the metal holder for rust and treat the problem before it gets worse. And you have to replace the weather stripping if you get under there because when your removing the old one it gets damaged.
