Quick Question on Maft Pro reacting with stock GTE ECU

I know the Stock ECU reacts and part throttle causing lean afr's under boost on VPC/AFC setup's

So my question is this a big concern or common with MAFT Pro's?

I am using a Stock Toyota Head gasket so staying away from detonation is important and i wanted to know from the experienced if the MAFT PRO can provide this for me.

This is my deciding factor from going MAFT now or saving for Stand Alone (PRO EFI)

My power goal is 500hp with the MAFT PRO.

i will also be going e85 as it's higher octane and i believe (correct me if i am wrong) it's less prone to detonation.

I have been fighting this issue with mine.. there are options to correct the issue but they throw engine codes... I got a lot of help from igotadiesel an CajunKenny so maybe one o them will post on here but personally I am considering megasquirt and pitching maft pro because where I lives there are corners and hills everywhere and I couldn't get any feedback from anyone as to how to fix the part throttle boost issue without causing other issues....... but i have had quite a few people help me along the way who seem to like it lots .... if you en up going maft pro make sure u get a exhaust temp sensor/gauge

now that i have o2 sensor hooked up to tccs i run in closed loop exept during warmup and at wot. correct???
and the stock computer tries to keep afr at 14.7
so wont i be wayyyy to lean during part throttle boost??? and if i set up ptt or mid user tune the tccs will fight me ???

Yes and no... how is that for an answer... the TCCS actually will go into open loop before WOT, as far as I am aware it is an algorithm with several factors that the ECU decides to go into open loop, for example, if I hold 6psi of boost at 70% throttle lets say for more than 2 or 3 seconds, it goes to open loop. The time to be careful is pulling a long hill and running that 3-5psi of boost while it is still at 14.7, this is why I also run an EGT gauge so that I can watch and make sure it is not getting too hot... Is your EGR system still intact?

Do not use PTT, we will use the VE table for fine tuning, as opposed to the low/mid/high tune settings on the unit...

Jordan, the MAFT pro does a slightly better job of part throttle than the older piggybacks, but bottom line, it still suffers the same challenges. For 500whp, I'd be upgrading to a standalone or forged pistons... or more likely both.

Thanks Grim and JDM

Grim i'm having a hard time on deciding i know the stock pistons wont hold forever i plan on building a spare block and head just to have for when this one gives up. Kinda of curious with taking the right steps on how long i can push and make this thing last :)

I did *exactly* that with my 7M car. Built a second engine with forged pistons, had it sitting on a stand for when I popped the one in the car - which had a MHG and ARP bolts, but the pistons were still OEM.

Pushed the power up, drove it for a couple weeks, pushed it up again, drove it, etc, etc. Damn thing lasted over a year! Eventually I was running over 20psi, on a 60-1 upgraded CT, stock fuel... that finally popped it. Mind you, it did a *really* damn fine job of popping it. Destroyed the ringlands on several pistons, melted two more, and killed the head gasket in literally every cylinder. Oh, and killed the bearings on 2 more.

Damn yeah as far as fuel i just ordered a walbro and Aeromotive afpr and plan on running e85

I have stock gasket with arp studs i decked the head and had the block checked/cleaned by the machine shop and i am also running a 60-1 at the moment so we will see where it goes but i only plan on running it in it's safe limits if it blows i want it to be because it couldn't take anymore not because i lean it out :)
