So I am nearing the end of my stupidly long rebuild on my 7m and I have everything I need to put it back together. Now my question I have is.... should I put this one back in or should I just go to a 1jz/2jz swap right now while I have it out and sell my 7m parts.

Since I live in Western Canada I feel like I am at a disadvantage for selling the parts to the motor. This is a big consideration and I was thinking that I should put it together and try to sell the motor as a whole unit. In the end my build will end with a 1jz or a 2jz unit in the car so I am debating if I should just do it now and not even put my motor back in the car.

Thoughts and opinions people. Thats the big part of what I am looking for.

anyone have a rough price list for parts on the 7mgte?

Not going to go the 2j vs 7m route soooo the questions should be is it worth my time and money. Since the 7m build took a long time (your words) how long will it take for a 1j or 2j swap? Then there's money. My bro n law spent about $5,500 for his 2j swap and that's with selllng some 1j parts. So to me you have to answer those two question ......Is it worth my time and money?

I would say no, once you put that much effort into something you should see it to the end. put the motor back in and drive it, if people like it, sell the whole motor then. then you got a big jump on your 2jz, no point of turning around once your done and starting over. by the time you got all your parts sold it will be next year and you'll be without a supra all summer. you might even forget what a joy to drive it was and scrap your project. seen it happen before.

Thank you beals, I have leaned towards putting the motor in. The reason I have taken this long to do the rebuild is because I have really really stupid machinists in my area and have been waiting on them to finish the block. The plan has always been to put a 1jz vvti motor in but I was wondering if I should just leave my motor out and do the other motor now.

I will take beals advice I guess and put the 7m in and sell it as a running motor. Fully rebuilt with brand new bearings and arp studs and mhg.

I have seen the other threads btw, thanks indigo. I actually watch your posts, very opinionated person. A lot of good information

I was thinking about just buying the motor and parts needed for the swap and selling the other parts eventually. Thats why I was asking peoples opinions about parting out the motor or building the motor and selling it complete and running.

The reason I said not another one of these posts is because they both can achieve the same things.

Want to rev out to 8500 rpms? 7m can do it. Need 1000 rwhp horsepower? 7m can do that as well. The engine is only as good as the owner is patient, the reason I say this is how far are you willing to go to get what you want? The 7m isn't a engine where you just bolt a shit load of stuff to it then expect it to run for years while neglecting it. If you do it properly, you can have a 600 rwhp 8500 RPM running monster that will never leave you walking. It's all about how much are you willing to invest.

Everyone changes to a 2j because they think a 2j is indestructible. Yes, the technology does help the 2j along with the parts being younger helps too. If you swap over to a 62mm t4 on both engines, you'll get nearly the same numbers around the same PSI.

I put a 7MGE back into my car, runs great. If I still have the car when the 7MGE quits or throws a major number I'll look at the 2 JZGTE, but keep this in mind a good 2JZGTE swap out will cost you between $6K & $8K depending on how much of the work you do your self.
