EDIT: Sorry posted this in the wrong section

Ok so if you read my update (link in sig), you saw that she is running hella lean at idle. I think I found that problem, the vac line for the heater valve was hanging lose, found it when I tried pressurizing the intake.

BUT while repressurizing the intake to recheck, there is a small hiss coming from the TB. The TB has bearings for the throttle plate "rod". Air is hissing out from the bearing, there is no way to seal that up, the TB "rod" is not held on with a nut, it is pressed into the linkage plate.
So will this leak enough air that I should be concerned about? Or any ideas on how to seal it up?

BTW it is not the stock TB.

the only thing i can think of, off the top of my head (cant get the pics to load on my slow ass dialup :() is that you could possibly try to seal it up from the INSIDE. (not sure exactly what you'd use, but just make sure it cant break off and get sucked into the motor!)

for shits and giggles, you could try some FIPG (the toyota form in place gasket) TEMPORARILY to see if that cures your problems.

I thought about sealant, but that would just come loose from the "rod" turning.
I just pulled it off, and there is no way to get to it from inside. The TB is machined for the bearing on the outside. On the inside there is just a small gap between the rod and the hole drilled for it to go through.

But is it even enough to be concerned about, (I found the main leak causing the lean condition) that's the main question. I know of others that have run mustang TB's (mellow yellow for one), and there was someone else back in the day that emailed me some pics (but they are all long gone). And I never heard of an ill effect, or any leaks noted.

I will probably put it all back together and just see what happens, and go from there.:icon_neut

yeah, that's what it seems like. i cant understand how air would leak out of there. that's just weird! any air lost is going to affect your motor, though, a small amount of air wouldnt affect it as much as a large amount. it'll probably end up making you run a little rich. i'm sure you can figure something out!

Thanks again shaeff, Well I put it all back together and drove it today. Now at idle the AFR is in spec, 14ish instead of 18-19, the VAC line was the main problem.:drink1:

I will still mull over the TB leak. I was thinking the same thing, under boost I may run a little rich. But I have yet to push it to boost.
