which port do i use to recharge the system? the one in front on passenger side or the one right on the side of the compressor?

That question indicates you shouldn't be mucking with AC at all but to answer it either service port can be used with the proper technique. In your case use the port on the compressor and charge with vapor. Refer to the TSRM for details.
