well since my HG went on the supra, i decided to do the bearing too...I started to knock, it only knocked on start after sitting for a few hours, or when i got over 3k. It was a faint knock but it was noticeable.

When im doing my hg, ill do the bearings too. From the looks of things im going to be doing the ghetto/redneck rod bearing fix. Im wondering if weather or not ill need to drop the cross member. since my head will be off, can I take off the trans. mounts and then jack up the block and then hold it up with some sort of bracing? do you know if that will give me enough clearance to get oil pan off?

I know that it would be easier to rip the engine out of the car, but i dont have a place to keep the engine when its out of the car...

thanks

Yes the cross member comes off and it is doable. PITA though, I look at it as if you have to disconnect everything else on the motor to pull it, it would take more time.

to drop the pan you gotta drop the front crossmember, all you gotta unbolt is the top strut mount and the 3 bolts on either side the hold main crossmember up. and motor mount nuts. not quite as far as the TSRM but still a pain. oh and support the engine of course.
