I had a friend who didn't care if his fingers got pinched and a screw driver to pry the edge around. Took me probably about 5 min.

took me a good 15mins of swearing and red faced talking.I started at one open end and i sorrta worked it on bit by bit with a small slotted screwdriver.I realise why its a tight fit once i started pressing the clutch pedal.

Maybe I should clarify a little more now that I'm more awake. Basically I didn't try and stretch it over the screwdriver to get it to go on. I started it on, and then I believe I actually just pushed down on it with a flathead, then took the little tiny flathead and just held what i had pushed down. Wasn't THAT easy but my buddy and I didn't have too much trouble at 2 in the morning.

i got one end in the slot on the release hub. then put a pair of chanel lock pliers going from the inside of the ring to the outside or the hub. squeezed the pliars close, that streched the ring apart. then i used a punch to push the ring down into place. took me about 5 mins once i learned this trick, before that it was alot of cussing and anger.

and craftman also has a pair of snapring pliars that are made to be used with snaprings that have pointed ends like these. if you feel like spending money. a friend of mine told me to take a pair of duck bill pliars and use a center punch to put two divots in the ends of them. then put the pointed ends of the snapring in the divots of the duckbill pliars and use them to strech it out. i didnt do this because i didnt want to do that to my pliars, but i guess it would work, just a thought.
