Anyone know how much boost is safe for a stock rebuilt ct26? My car is down with a bhg and im putting an hks HG in it, so when i get it put together i will boost more than stock because of the head gasket change, say around 12psi. Ive heard people say that any more than 8psi and dont expect your turbo to last more than a couple months? If that is true what do i need to change in order for it to handle 12psi? compressor? Better bearings? Better seals? I have carbon seals and journal bearings in the redbuild kit. Will that do it? What do i need? Thanks for the replies if any.

agreed, after 15psi, the turbo isnt working efficiently. (it's essentially blowing hot air...)

you can run the ct26 to 25psi if you wanted to, but like the others have said - it isn't efficient above 15-17psi.

so to answer your question, you'll be fine at 12psi, but you might hit fuel cut. if so, lower the boost down a bit. don't worry about the turbos internals neither they're fine. if you blow it up, then just send it out to be upgraded.

so with a carbon seal and journal bearings, i could safely run 11-12psi without blowing out the internals? I dont really have money to send it out and have it upgraded.

I have nothing to add, Im just upping my post count... :D:D:D

Actually, what I would have added has already been added by these three fine gentlemen above me... So I will just say this: I CONCUR!

:D

EDIT: MTO, no... you have no worries running 11-12psi on those internals... TRUST ME... Have fun, get the car together and run it... Then we'll work on getting you past the fuel cut you're inevitably going to face... :D

There is almost zero shaft play, and it boosts to 8 fine, but it blows a little smoke on spool up, and there was oil in the plastic intercooler pipe that i took off to put on my HKS BOV, so it is leaking. Not a big deal, but my supra is extremely clean and i dont want it to blow smoke at all...makes it look shitty. Im also changing my valve guide seals, and cam seals while its taken apart, just to eliminate any chance that it ISNT the turbo smoking.

And thanks for the welcome. Im new to the 7mgte, but i rode in a mkiii that put down a 12.6 sec. quarter with 440hp and fell in love, that plus the roadhugging ability and looks of a supra make it a truly amazing car. And to think i got the car for $2700!!! almost seems like a steal lol.

I'm not going to add to what everyone has said about the turbo-it's been summed up correctly. Anyway, congratulations on your purchase. Any pics? $2700 is a damn good price if it's in good shape all around. If you're unsure about how long the HG has been in there, though, I would strongly suggest installing a MHG soon.
