ok so most of you know im building my bottom end. I was just wondering if i should be expecting stock hp at stock boost lvls or will it give me more just cuz they are performance, or maybe even less??? cuz they are 8.4:1 compression. Or do performance piston just lighten spinfast and last longer? lol I dont know if it helps but they are JEpistons and Moly rings, eagle rods, and a stock crank all balanced within 1/2 a gram per cylinder. thanks

The only way you could increase performance with the bottom end is if they increased your compression with stock boost, other than that probably not.

Too bad ya already bought the stuff cuz Ross Pistons are pre drilled with oil squirters, the JE ones don't have them or don't line up according to a guy at gateway who runs a 538 rwhp mk3 runs 11.2's all day, he has ross pistons and all the other bottem end stuff done as well as port polished head, he needs a bigger turbo but it runs hard.

The forged pistons will handle more boost\hp but will not really increase it without raising compression. The rings may outperform the stock ones which would translate to more power. The pistons are basically added protection from piston damage. Money well spent imho.

could they be drilled into the JEpiston?

I would not drill into any pistons!

Basicly there should be holes drilled into your pin bore from the oil control ring. This ring (Actually there are three of them, a top and bottem ring and a stainless wavy ring that keeps them seperated.) allows the oil to be scraped off and exit the piston via holes drilled into the ring land.

On the ROSS pistons, there are holes from the oil control ring land into the pin bores on 4 sides. Also holes that just dump the oil under the piston where it can lubricate the rod pin, and fall back into the pan to be picked up and forced elsewhere.

I belive most pistons have similar types of holes. Even the stock ones. I don't know if they have the pin bore lubrication however.

To get more performance from your engine, work on the ability to bring in air/fuel and get it out again. Port work on your head, cleaning up the exhaust side especially is a good idea. (It becomes restrictive pretty quickly, and the most gains are from porting the hot side in most turbo engines.) Leave a "lip" where the exhaust port dumps into the exhaust manifold. This lip creates turbulence in the runner at that point, and helps keep exhaust pulses from going back up your runner from adjacent runners. This shows up as better tourqe in the low and mid range.

Have fun doing the build up. :)

lol yes i knoe you would not drill the piston itself was just wondering if the JEpiston could be made to be about like the ROSS piston. yea head work will be next on the list. get the two most time consuming and expencive things out of the way first lol
