question about block

I have an 87 with a 7mgte and I have it disassembled, there is a brass bushing by the oil pump shaft and do t know what goes there is anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I believe its a vesitigial part; something that was there for a distributor or something else, in some previous incarnation of the block. Kinda like the access port under the fuel J tube, for running a mechanical fuel pump.
