Q about the 2nd gear in my automatic 88

I was reading the manual that came with the car at the section dealing with the 2nd gear.It says the maximum allowable speed in "2" is 70 for 7mge,and 76 for 7mgte.so i can drive through town in 2nd?::dunce::

I have'nt done it but when i put it in 2nd and started to drive it felt like the overdrive was kicked in.my question is what is the purpose of this gear?::dunce::

we have more gears to lower the engine RPM to lower the fuel consumption. 60 in 2nd gear eats more fuel then it would at 60 in 4th gear. which is why we have more than two or three gears...

yes you can drive around town in 2nd, hope you like getting pulled over for staying at like ~4000RPM @ 40mph... and i hope you have one hell of an engine to sustain high rpm at low speeds.
