ok im doin a full rebuild and im at the point where im puttin the head on. ok so me and my cousin are puttin the head on and my cousin hits the bottom of the head into one of the dowels. i turn it over and see it left a lil mark. Miniscle as it is, it concerns me and i want to know what u guys think. Also i did get the head resurfaced and the block decked for my cometic mhg. Another problem is I torqued down the head yesterday with no brake quiet. Should i leave it or should i untorque the head so i can add some brake quiet to the mhg?

Might be an idea to undo the bolts in the reverse order that you tightened em up in carefully pull the head (keeping your cousin away ;) ) do the gasket with Brake Quiet and refit!

Worst that can happen now is it seeps some Oil around the front so it's your call.
(what gasket did ya use?)

Good choice!

I'd leave it clamped down if it was mine the Cometic has a layer of flourine rubber to help it seal so it should be fine as long as you're confident the dent/mark isn't near the bore.

for reference sake:

when i put the head on my car, i forgot to put the sealer (FIPG) around the front timing case. i had/have my head torqued to 90ft lbs with ARP studs.

i was so distrought, that the day after i put the head on, i woke up super early and ripped it back off so i could put the sealer there. i screwed up my permatex brake quiet coat, and had to use brake cleaner to get it off the headgasket.

i carefully re-cleaned both mating surfaces, re-coated the headgasket, put the sealer in the correct place, and bolted it back down to 90ft lbs.

i've had no problems with it since. (also, for reference sake, my headgasket is a Cometic, and when i used the brake cleaner on it, the rubber/viton coating came off. so now it's just held with permatex:))
