Hey guys I just picked up a 92 Supra turbo with some good looking mods about a month ago. But...
While I was driving home I had a friend following me and he said it was smoking (oil) in boost. I continued to drive it and its been burning oil pretty badly, maybe a .5 to 1 quart in a week of driving. I've been adding oil to keep it safe and I'm probably going to change it to some heavier weight oil.

*the turbo is water cooled but its still a factory turbo, the previous owner said he upgraded the exhaust side...?
*it doesn't smoke white, its all black :naughty:

Just to give an idea of my mods: ARP headstuds, aftermarket headgasket, fuel pressure regulator, aftermarket turbo piping, tial knockoff BOV, rx7 intercooler (no idea what chassis), 3 in downpipe to flexpipe to 3 in straight pipe with an apexi oval can muffler (really quiet surprisingly), 3 in cone intake filter, and an aftermarket 11 psi wastegate spring, no tune.

i'm thinking the excess boost cause a piston ring to break, but it still has a lot of power.
If any of you guys have any ideas of what could be wrong I would greatly appreciate the help. :1zhelp:

Black smoke should be fuel, not oil. Is it leaking when parked?

leaking oil? it doesn't smoke at idle if that answers your question...

*it also has 550cc injectors, forgot to add that...

well i don't know much about tuning... but my car has coil packs with a harness & no distributor so i couldn't time it like that.. maybe raising or lowering the fuel pressure? i still don't understand how its using so much oil..

So yea black smoke is to much fuel which is common from a lex/550 mod with no tunning.

As for oil burning could be bad pcv system/turbo/piston rings or valve covers...should do a compression test.

Your coils look like the common is300 2jzge vvti coil pack mod. To hook up a timing light you just clamp the light over the number 1 spark plug wire hook it up to your battery and whala point it at the timing cover.

If timing is off lossen the single 12mm bolt on the CAM POSITION SENSOR (CPS) its on the front of the head on exhaust side. Simply turn this back and forth until you get the car to 10* you also have to jump in the diag box using a wire ports TE1 AND E1.

Wouldn't the number one plug be a coil with the is300 mod? You might have to hook up the timing light to the number 6 wire.

thanks for the help! i'll let you know what happens after i check the timing...

i think i found the culprit for the oil leak..

*i also noticed after I switched from 5w-30 to 10w-40 the leak almost disappeared.

"you also have to jump in the diag box using a wire ports TE1 AND E1."
