Proper Operating Temps?

I have questions here as far as what is nominal?

I put a temperature meter stuck between the radiator fins to see when my electric fans are turning on, but what temp is best to have them turn on?

Oil Temp. I was told the 200 to 220 deg. F range is best.

190° - 215° is our optimum operating range. If you can keep it between 195° and 205° it is even better.

For oil temps, you are correct.

For coolant temps, the stock ECU looks for a temp range of 176-210 deg F.

To add on to this, from my understanding of it, anything above 210* the ECU begins to pull timing, below 176, ECU will be in open loop mode and run rich, so keeping within these ranges is vital to performance.

A 180-190 temp would be better to get a jump on it. The ECU does pull timing above 210...warm-up enrichment occurs below 176, but it is a decreasing amount as the temp approaches 176. Of the two, pulling timing would be the least desirable.

so if my car is not fully warmed up, its still using the CSI? or only up to a certain degree? lets say my car is at 120 or so, will it still be firing away as much as it would at 40 degrees?

The CSI is ONLY on when cranking the engine... and even then it's dependant upon a couple other factors.

Temp has nothing to do with how fast the engine is "firing", that would be dependent on engine speed (see: RPM). ;)

The timing map (what you're really asking about... it's like I'm psychic isn't it?) changes depending on numerous factors, but coolant temp is one, yes.

I'd have to look at my TCCS book (I'm away for a bit) to be sure what timing does at temps below 176 degs F, but I do know that warm-up enrichment utilizes the main injectors. The colder the motor is, the more enrichment is afforded by the ECU...it decreases to zero at the point where coolant reaches the 176 deg threshold. Between 176 and 210 degs, the ECU uses the normal ops timing/fuel maps (assuming there are no other issues).
